Cheeper privacy, plainly.
Cheeper finds nearby fuel prices and plans routes around the cheapest stops. No account needed — the app never asks who you are. This page explains what data we use and why.
Who we are
Cheeper is operated by Studio Popix ("we", "us"). Questions? Write to hello@studiopopix.com.
No account required
Cheeper doesn't require you to create an account, and we don't collect your name, email address, phone number, or Apple ID.
The app does generate a random identifier on first launch. It isn't linked to your name, email, or Apple ID, and it's stored securely on your device (in the Keychain). We use it to link your app usage, subscription status, and feedback together — for example, so that if you report a bug we can find the diagnostics that go with it. Because it's stored in the Keychain, it persists if you delete and reinstall the app. Under UK GDPR this identifier is pseudonymous personal data, and the sections below explain where it's used.
What we collect
1. Location
We request foreground location permission to find fuel stations near you and to plan routes. Your location is used at the moment of the request to query our aggregation server and mapping services. We don't build a history of where you've been.
Location is also shared with Mapbox to generate route directions and render the map. Mapbox processes this under their own privacy policy at mapbox.com/legal/privacy.
2. Route data
When you plan a route, your start point, destination, and corridor preferences are sent to Mapbox to calculate directions and to our server to find stations along the way. Route data is not stored once the response is returned.
3. Preferences stored on your device
Your fuel type preference, search radius, corridor width, favourite stations, and any saved home/area location are saved locally on your device using AsyncStorage. These don't leave your device unless you explicitly enable iCloud or Google Drive backup at the OS level.
4. Analytics — PostHog
We use PostHog to collect usage events (for example, "route search performed" or "filter applied"). Events don't include your location. They are linked to the random identifier generated by the app (see "No account required" above) — not to your name, email, or Apple ID — so we can understand how the app is used and connect usage to feedback you send us.
5. Session replays — PostHog
To help us improve the app, we record session replays — videos of how you interact with the app, with all text inputs masked. Recordings never include your Apple ID, name, or email, but they are linked to the app-generated identifier, so if you send us feedback we can find the recording that shows the problem. You can opt out via Settings → Privacy.
6. Crash reports — Sentry
We use Sentry to collect crash reports. If the app crashes, Sentry sends us a technical diagnostic — device model, OS version, and stack trace. No location or preference data is included. See sentry.io/privacy.
7. Subscriptions — RevenueCat
If you subscribe to Cheeper Premium, purchases are processed by Apple or Google. RevenueCat acts as an intermediary to manage subscription state. It uses the same app-generated identifier described above as its user ID — not linked to your name, email, or Apple ID — so your subscription (including any free trial) stays attached to your device even if you reinstall the app. RevenueCat does not receive your location or search history. See revenuecat.com/privacy.
8. Feedback
If you send us feedback from the Settings screen, we receive the message you type together with the app-generated identifier. Feedback is stored on our server (hosted with Supabase) and a copy is forwarded to Slack, a US-based service we use to read and respond to feedback — this means your message is transferred outside the UK under Slack's standard data-protection safeguards. We use the identifier to match your feedback to app diagnostics (such as a session replay of the problem) so we can investigate and reply. Don't include personal details in your message unless you want us to see them.
Fuel price data
Prices come from the UK government's Fuel Finder scheme, aggregated by our backend server hosted on Railway. Your queries reach this data via our server, not directly from your device, which means the scheme sees our server's IP address rather than yours.
What we don't collect
- Your name, email address, or phone number
- Advertising identifiers (IDFA / GAID)
- Location history or movement patterns
- Contacts, photos, microphone, or camera
Your rights
Under UK GDPR you can request access to, correction of, or deletion of personal data we hold. The data we hold about you is limited to what's linked to the app-generated identifier: usage events, session replays, subscription state, and any feedback you've sent. To exercise these rights — including deleting your feedback or everything linked to your identifier — email hello@studiopopix.com and we'll respond within 30 days. Note that because the identifier is stored in your device's Keychain, deleting the app doesn't remove it — reinstalling picks up the same identifier.
Children
Cheeper isn't directed at children under 13 and we don't knowingly collect data from them.
Changes to this policy
If we change how Cheeper handles data, we'll update this page, bump the version number at the top, and show a notice in-app before the change takes effect.
